About Perth International Jazz Festival

The Perth International Jazz Festival (PIJF) is an annual jazz festival held across venues in Perth, Western Australia, including the CBD, Hyde Park and Subiaco. It was established in 2012 by the late Associate Professor Graham Wood, and the first festival in 2013 featured Joe Lovano, Katie Noonan and Vince Jones. That year it was ranked fourth in Time Out's list of the top seven Australian jazz festivals. The festival is run by the not-for-profit Perth International Jazz Festival Inc., with Dr Mace Francis as festival director.

The 2026 festival runs for eleven nights, from Thursday 22 October to Sunday 1 November, with a mix of ticketed concerts and free community events. International headliners include the jazz supergroup AZIZA, made up of Dave Holland, Chris Potter, Lionel Loueke and Eric Harland, who close the festival at His Majesty's Theatre on 1 November. Dee Dee Bridgewater performs in a duo with pianist Helen Sung at the Astor Theatre on 27 October. Armenian pianist Tigran Hamasyan presents Manifeste at the Octagon Theatre, and Rebirth Brass Band opens the festival on 22 October. The Bad Plus play on their farewell tour, and Nik West headlines on 31 October.

The program also features the Kris Davis Trio, BIGYUKI, Belle Chen, Olivia Chindamo and Matthew Sheens, and a Japan Jazz Nights double bill, along with local collaborations such as Jon Hunt with WAAPA and the Ray Walker Nonet. Melbourne's Jon Hunt's Blue Devils play late-night Club Sessions at the Liberty Theatre on 28, 29 and 30 October, and entry is free with any purchased festival ticket.

Free events include a Jazz Brunch at Raine Square on Saturday 24 October and Jazz Picnic in the Park at Hyde Park on Sunday 25 October. The picnic is a family-friendly afternoon of local and emerging musicians with food trucks and a Jazz Parade, and musicians of all ages are invited to bring portable instruments and march. The festival also runs jazz nights at the Subi Night Market and a launch event at Brookfield Place.

Tickets are sold per event through Megatix, with prices varying by show. For example, AZIZA tickets run from $85 to $155 and Tigran Hamasyan starts at $79. Jazz Club members get 15% off eligible shows, and tickets are non-refundable except as required by law. The festival provides water stations with free refills. The 2025 festival ran from 18 October to 2 November and featured Gregory Porter, Samara Joy, Bill Frisell and Hiromi.
