About Boab Metals Ord Valley Muster

The Ord Valley Muster is a multi-day festival held each May in Kununurra and the surrounding East Kimberley, on Miriwoong and Gajirrabeng Country in Western Australia. Known by sponsor name as the Boab Metals Ord Valley Muster, it combines music, art, comedy, dining, rodeo and cultural experiences, along with tourism activities run with local operators. The East Kimberley Chamber of Commerce and Industry created the Muster in 2001. Since 2009 it has been run by Ord Valley Events Inc, a community-based organisation and registered charity that was originally a chamber sub-committee. The 2026 festival marked its 25th anniversary.

The program ranges from large events to free family celebrations and smaller Indigenous-led performances. The headline night is the Kimberley Moon Experience, held on the closing weekend. The free Party in the Park is aimed at families, and Corroboree Under the Stars presents traditional corroboree by the Miriwoong Gajerrong people. The program also includes rodeo and comedy events. The Muster has been inducted into the WA Tourism Awards Hall of Fame three times (2008, 2011 and 2017). It won Silver at the 2023 Australian Tourism Awards and Bronze at the 2025 WA Tourism Awards.

The 2027 Muster runs over ten days, from 14 to 23 May. The 2027 program has not yet been released. Tickets are sold per event through the festival website rather than as one festival pass. In 2026, a Festival Hub Season Pass covered every event at Celebrity Tree Park, the central festival hub. All sales are final with no refunds, although exchanges to another performance of the same event may be possible for a $5 fee.

Age rules depend on the event. Events advertised as 18+ cannot admit anyone under 18, even with a parent, while all-ages events admit under-18s with a parent or guardian. At Festival Hub events, food and drink are on sale and guests may bring a picnic, chair or rug. BYO alcohol is not allowed, except for general admission tickets to the Kimberley Moon Experience.

For access, Companion Card holders receive a free companion ticket by flagging their card at checkout. The festival has also partnered with Wayfinder Pathways to provide NDIS support for people with disability attending Muster events. The organisers note that some events are held in remote, rugged settings with limited facilities, and they ask attendees with access needs to get in touch so they can help.

The 2026 Muster ran from Friday 15 to Sunday 24 May 2026, with the Kimberley Moon Experience on Saturday 23 May.
