About Glyndebourne Festival
Glyndebourne is an English country house near Lewes in East Sussex, and the opera house on its grounds has hosted the annual Glyndebourne Festival since 1934. The Grade II listed house is thought to be about six hundred years old. The Christie family has owned the estate since the 19th century.
Each summer season runs for about three months, with several productions performed in repertory. The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and the London Philharmonic Orchestra share the pit, and Stephen Langridge and Robin Ticciati serve as Artistic Director and Music Director. The 2026 Festival ran from 21 May to 30 August with Tosca, Il turco in Italia, L'Orfeo, Billy Budd, Ariadne auf Naxos and Die Entführung aus dem Serail.
Festival 2027 runs from 20 May to 29 August and includes three new productions, all directed by people new to the Festival. It opens with Mozart's Idomeneo (20 May to 14 July), directed by Stephen Langridge and conducted by Robin Ticciati with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. It is the pair's first main-stage Festival production together. The cast includes Ian Koziara, Deepa Johnny, Katharina Konradi and Golda Schultz. Rossini's La Cenerentola (13 June to 20 August) gets its first new Glyndebourne staging in over 20 years, directed by Max Webster and conducted by Enrique Mazzola, with Svetlina Stoyanova as Angelina. Janáček's Jenůfa (18 July to 18 August) is only the second Glyndebourne production of the opera. Yaël Farber makes her opera debut as director, and Ticciati conducts the London Philharmonic Orchestra with Yaritza Véliz in the title role.
Two revivals complete the season. Diane Paulus's 2024 production of Bizet's Carmen runs from 21 May to 30 June and again from 11 to 29 August, conducted by Ben Glassberg. Danielle de Niese sings Carmen in May and June and Rihab Chaieb in August. Tom Cairns's production of Verdi's La traviata (27 June to 28 August) has twenty performances conducted by Riccardo Frizza, with Louise Alder and Elisa Verzier sharing Violetta.
Tickets are sold per performance through the Glyndebourne website, with prices set by date and seat. Glyndebourne also runs an autumn season outside the summer Festival.
