About Sled Island

Sled Island is a five-day music and arts festival held each June in venues across Calgary, from bars and theatres to a church and the Central Library. Since 2007 it has built a reputation for eclectic, independent programming: more than 200 bands plus comedy, art, special events and a free one-day conference, with a different guest curator each year adding their own picks. The festival says it draws over 25,000 attendees.

The 2027 festival runs June 16 to 20. The 2026 edition, guest curated by the experimental hip-hop group clipping., ran June 17 to 21 and included acts such as Lil Mariko, illuminati hotties, Palehound, Cris Derksen Quartet and TEAR DUNGEON. The 2027 guest curator and lineup have not been announced; the schedule is usually released in late spring.

Most people attend on a pass. The Discovery Pass, listed at $195 to $250 depending on when you buy, gets you into all 2027 events subject to capacity. The Discovery Plus Pass, at $319 to $399, adds priority entry, artist lounge access with drink tickets, a t-shirt, poster and tote bag. Both are for people 18 and over. Under-18s can buy an All-Ages Pass for $40, which covers every event open to minors. Day passes, expected to cost $70 to $90, go on sale in spring 2027, and a limited number of single-show tickets are sold too. Payment plans are available on purchases of $50 or more. As a rule, two-thirds of each venue's capacity is held for passholders, so arrive early for shows you really want to see. Passes and tickets are non-refundable but can be transferred.

All-ages programming happens at venues such as the Central Library, Central United Church, BLOX Arts Centre and some breweries and bars before 8 pm. Free shows have been held at the Ship & Anchor and the ground floor of the Palomino. Every venue offers free tap water.

Accessibility varies by venue. Several are wheelchair accessible, and the festival's venue page gives entrance, elevator and washroom details for each one, so check it before you plan your day. Sled Island has a detailed Safer Spaces and Inclusion policy and code of conduct; staff and volunteer venue managers are trained in bystander intervention, safe rooms and safe walks can be requested at venues, and concerns can be emailed to contact@sledisland.com. Professional cameras need media accreditation. General questions go to info@sledisland.com.
